Disinfecting Your countertops

With health and cleanliness at the forefront, we thought we'd discuss how to safely clean and disinfect your stone countertops.

☝️- Keep in mind that while natural stone countertops like granite are generally very tough, nothing is truly impermeable. Stone can and will receive wear over time, especially if not cared for properly including what it's cleaned with. Besides the need to seal natural stone periodically to prevent bacteria from settling - here are some safe cleaning method suggestions.

❗👎Do Not: Use abrasive cleaners or sponges. These will weaken the stone's top layer of sealant and eventually damage the stone itself. This includes certain chemical-based as well as some natural products IE: Scouring powders or creams, Windex, acidic cleaners w/ vinegar, lemon, lime; or anything with ammonia or bleach should be avoided.

❕👍Do: Use pH balanced (pH rate of 7/neutral) cleaners or gentle liquid dish soap with warm/hot water and a washcloth/microfiber cloth for daily cleaning. This means you don't have to buy a fancy stone cleaner, you can likely use what you already have.

🧼 If a stronger disinfectant is desired, mix together a 50:50 solution of water and 70% or higher isopropyl alcohol. Spray onto the granite, allow to sit for three to five minutes, then rinse with water and dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
